How Volt Delta works.
The model is more transparent than most. Here is how it works.
The Confidence Ladder
Three levels of depth, one engine. Level 1 — observed condition plus vehicle basics — takes about a minute and returns a clearing-price band suitable for most forecourt decisions. Level 2 — photos, documents, OBD2 State of Health, charging history — narrows the band to about four points. Level 3 — portfolio context, lender or operator framing, warranty-cliff exposure — runs the full institutional layer. You stop when the decision in front of you doesn't need more.
The Model
The clearing-price estimator is a residual-value model built on the spread between listed asking prices and actual transaction outcomes across UK, German and French markets. The model is segmented by powertrain generation, battery chemistry, and warranty status. Where you have an OBD2 reading we use it directly. Where you do not, your observed condition rating does the same job.
Higher-Confidence Inputs
Each input shifts either the midpoint or the confidence band. Photos help us verify the observed-condition slider. Service documentation tightens depreciation assumptions. OBD2 SoH replaces the slider prior with a measurement. Charging history, where supplied, calibrates the expected forward degradation trajectory. The model is explicit about which inputs moved the answer and by how much.
The Institutional Layer
For fleets, lenders and insurers, the diagnostic adds three things a single-vehicle valuation can't. Portfolio context — how the car you're pricing sits in the wider book. Listing-dispersion overlay — the spread between asking and clearing prices in the relevant model family, refreshed daily. Lender framing — the residual move expressed against your covenant headroom, your GMFV, or your underwriting model, depending on how you operate.
The Predictive Warranty Cliff Engine
Roughly 300,000 mass-market EVs leave manufacturer battery warranty across an 18-month window centred on Q2 2028. The Cliff Engine maps each vehicle in a portfolio to its expiry date, weights it by the OEM's actual battery-replacement behaviour to date, and models the residual response a quarter at a time. For institutions with material exposure, this is the part of the model that has no equivalent anywhere else.
